OMG!!! No i am not discarding this blog!
Sorry people, I haven’t been blogging as I was feeling unwell for the past 2 to 3 weeks. And Today I’m back. Well, it’s really sad that when I am sick, I tend not to put on makeup and even basic skincare, hence I won’t be posting so many images of myself yet.
So, today’s topic is Braces and Me. All my close friends and fellow workers would have know I have been on braces for like since Oct 2012. Its about 8 months and in another 4 months, I will be off my braces.
Some background about my teeth. My teeth in general sucks and have been giving my lots of problem. I used to have those human canine on me, I’ve lost all my photos in the past but yeah, when I was 25, I went to get it straighten, purely because I think it’s fugly and there were times I cut my lower lip. hahahahaha… But it’s quite irony some girls in jap were actually getting surgery to get their canine on them.
An example of my canine, my looks exactly like this but not as sharp as this woman here.
Here’s me without my canine. I got them smoothen. As this procedure were done many years ago, I kinda forgot how much it costs, but I got it done at this Prime Dental Clinic at Ang Mo Kio Blk 163.
So after I have gotten them straight, I have realize the canine is actually to cover up the gaps in my bottom row teeth. I was born with 2 missing teeth. so unfortunate right… and yes the teeth don’t grow like so nicely you have 2 missing huge gaps, the moment you have gaps, your teeth collapse into like this:
Ok, so it’s like whenever I talk right, I will forever look like I am eating dark chocolate… coz of the freaking gaps!!! the above pic was actually my 2nd visit to the orthodontist. So before that the teeth were even more spaced out.
So I salut orthodontist, they have reasons why they earn so much ya. But there are also reasons why we pay so much for it.
I have explored and researched many options before I choose braces and believe this is the best choice I’ve ever made in my life.
I initially thought I could use Bonding or rather they call it Porecelain Veneers now to bond bigger teeth over my smaller teeth to in order to close the gap, well obviously that is not the best way to do it, the bonded teeth is too thin and fragile I think to support. They are more for improving the shape, colour and size, but not gaps.
I have consider Crowns as they are like use “fake teeth” to COVER your smaller teeth, and not a good choice either coz very seldom your bottom teeth look as big as your upper ones, and given that much gaps, I would have too many to crown, it won’t be that cost effective as well. So out.
Next, I have requested to use ceramic restorative method before from the Dentist at Prime Dental and iCare Dental at Thomson, both said alright but it will look really hideous. Ceramic Restore basically its like a plaster, where you plaster missing areas with ceramic and gosh, that would and should look horribly ugly coz the line between my 2 front bottom teeth would not be align with the top one. The dentist could simply just create a fake line but I think you still gonna get huge looking teeth and it won’t last as well.
Then I finally settled with Braces. I have previously seek an opinion before from a Dentist, I dont’ want to mention, he wanted to put all the teeth to the back and leave 2 missing space right smack in the centre. Has he ever thought how would I look and feel? Bo Geh! like ah mah!
So, people, get the right orthondontist and implant specialist before you decide on this. I have waited till 30 coz my parents are those who don’t really care how you look and if you want to be pretty and chio, you buy your own clothes, makeup and pay for yourself. It is only till now I am more financially stable then I could do this and I am so glad, I am still in time for it.
The dental clinic I went to is inside Oasia Hotel, where there is a specialist center in it. It’s called Thomson Specialist Dentistry. I am not paid to do this but I genuinely would like to introduce my orthondontist, Dr Henry Ho. He is the NICEST DENTIST I have ever met in my entire life. Trust me I have been to many dental clinics before ( thomson (went to 3 clinics before in thomson), bishan, jurong, hougang, amk (went to 3 clinics before), paragon (went to 2 clinics)). Dr Ho has a very bubbly and cheerful personality and most important of all, he thinks about my finances more than I do wahahaha… So don’t be intimidated by the Specialist thing, sometimes when you work out the sums, I think it’s worth every single cent.
My first follow up visit, Dr Ho asked me how was it, my reply was:”Horrible!”.
So my first 2 months was HORRID SHIT. Uncomfortable and got a few cuts because I could not get use to the steel thingy. But after like 3 months… TADAH…
and no I didn’t go for whitening, it was the lighting. So if you notice, I don’t wear braces on the top, and there were only minor alignment issues, hence I am wearing retainers for the top portion only.
I was so happy my 4 front teeth were pushed together to the front and they are like siblings now. They haven’t been so close for such a long time k!!! Hugs!!! It wasn’t as simple as just pushing all 4 of them together with a band. The bones inside your gums are affected as well. It could take one month just to align one right teeth closer to the rest of the 3, and it can also take another month to do the same for the other side. I have had springs, rubber ring bands, lobes, tubes on my braces before and trust me, it wasn’t an easy job. But thankfully, my teeth were all obedient and easy to work with.
I am on my 8th Month now, sounds like a preggo.
My teeth looked like this.
Meanwhile this month I need to push my left side teeth a bit more towards to make space for my implant.
In July, I will be going through a surgery for implants and in Sep once my braces are off, I can screw those teeth into my implants.
Till then, Stay Tune ya.
Excited!!!
